Price to book compares the share price to the accounting value of the company's net assets, so below 1 means the market values the whole business at less than its balance sheet says its assets are worth net of debt. That is genuinely common on the Philippine market, particularly among property firms and holding companies, and reflects how the market discounts those assets rather than an arithmetic error. A ratio is withheld rather than estimated in three cases: the company has not filed the annual figures yet, it reported a loss, which makes a price to earnings ratio meaningless, or it reports in a foreign currency, which would silently distort the result by the exchange rate.

Prices are end-of-day or delayed quotes sourced from the exchange, refreshed several times through each trading session. Fundamentals come from each company's latest annual filing, so the fiscal year behind a valuation multiple varies from row to row.

Value investing means buying companies trading below what their assets and earnings suggest they are worth, expecting the gap to close. The screen is a low P/E or a P/B under 1, both sortable ascending above. The second step is the one that matters: a low multiple can mean the market overlooked a company or that it correctly expects earnings to fall, and only the financial statements separate the two. They point in opposite directions on the same columns. Value looks for a low multiple; growth accepts a high one because the market already expects the business to expand, and the risk shifts from the company doing badly to it merely doing well.
