Today’s session
What the Philippine Stock Exchange actually did today, how far the move spread across the market, and what generally drives this index.
An index is a weighted average, so it can move a long way on a handful of large companies. The number of stocks that actually moved with it is what tells you whether this was the whole market or a few names.
85 of the 201 stocks that traded fell, or 42% of them, and the typical stock moved +0.00%. 81 of the 282 companies PSEye tracks posted no trade at all, and are counted separately rather than as flat.
| Sector | Average move | Stocks |
|---|---|---|
| Mining & Oil | +2.07% | 21 |
| Holding Firms | +0.54% | 25 |
| Industrial | +0.29% | 53 |
| Financials | -0.25% | 21 |
| Property | -0.54% | 34 |
| Services | -0.91% | 40 |
Services was the weakest sector at -0.91% on average, and Mining & Oil the strongest at +2.07%.
Foreign funds are a large share of daily turnover here, so sustained selling can pull the index down on a day with no domestic news at all.
Foreign investors were net buyers of ₱261.6M on September 9, 2026.
This is a single net figure for the whole market. PSE publishes net buying and selling per stock, not gross buy and sell totals, so PSEye reports the net only. See the full foreign flow history.
Today’s 0.34% move is larger than about 32% of daily moves since January 2020, which makes it a quiet day, smaller than most.
The market sits 12.1% below its highest level since January 2020, which it reached on October 16, 2024. The deepest fall from a prior high in that period was 38.4%, into March 19, 2020.
Both figures are measured against PSEye’s own equal-weighted basket of the 30 largest PSE companies, not the PSEi itself. This site holds only about a month of real PSEi closes and more than five years of the basket, so the basket is the only honest long-run yardstick available here. It is a close relative of the PSEi, not the same index, and the two can differ in a given period. See the year-by-year record.
PSEye is not going to tell you why the market moved. It has prices, volumes, breadth, sector splits and foreign flow. None of that is a reason. A reason lives in the heads of the people who placed the orders, and no data source has access to it. Articles that confidently attribute a day’s move to one cause are constructing a story after the fact, and that story is usually unfalsifiable.
What the numbers above do establish is the shape of the move: how broad it was, which parts of the market carried it, whether foreign money was leaving, and whether a move this size is normal. That is genuinely useful, and it is honest.
The latest Philippine business headlines PSEye has collected. These are what the press is covering, not an explanation of the index move, and no claim is made that any of them caused it.
These are the mechanisms that generally drive this market. They are not a claim about today, and on any given day some, all or none of them may be at work.
Good to know
The PSEi closed at 6,095.87, -0.34%. Of the 201 PSE stocks that traded, 85 fell and 69 rose, and the typical stock moved +0.00%. PSEye reports what the market did and does not guess at why: no data source can tell you the reason people traded. What generally moves this index is the peso-dollar rate, overnight moves in the US market, BSP policy rates, foreign fund flows, index rebalancing and earnings season.
85 of the 201 stocks that traded fell, which is 42 percent of them, and the median stock moved +0.00%. The PSEi is weighted by free-float market value, so it can fall while most stocks rise, or rise while most fall, whenever the largest companies move against the crowd. Comparing the index against the number of stocks that actually fell is how you tell those cases apart.
Today's 0.34 percent move is larger than about 32 percent of daily moves since January 2020, which makes it a quiet day, smaller than most. That comparison uses PSEye's own equal-weighted basket of the 30 largest PSE companies, because this site holds only about a month of real PSEi closes and more than five years of the basket.
Nobody can tell you that, and any site that does is guessing. What the record shows is that this market sits 12.1 percent below its highest level since January 2020, reached on October 16, 2024, and that its deepest fall from a prior high in that period was 38.4 percent. Falls of that size have happened before and were followed by recoveries, which is history rather than a forecast.
The Philippine Stock Exchange trades Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 3:00pm Manila time, and is closed on weekends and on the non-trading holidays set by presidential proclamation each year. PSEye keeps a live open or closed answer plus the full holiday calendar.
PSEye's market map shows every one of the 282 tracked PSE companies as a box sized by market value and coloured by today's move, so a broad selloff and a narrow one look visibly different. The daily recap lists the biggest gainers, losers and most active stocks for any trading day.
Stock-level figures are for the September 10, 2026 session. PSEye is an independent tracker, not a broker or an adviser, and nothing here is investment advice. What is the PSEi? · Is the market open today?
