Block Sales

A block sale is a single large trade negotiated directly between a buyer and a seller and then reported to the exchange, instead of being worked through the public order book. Putting an order that size on the book would move the price against whoever placed it, so the two sides agree a price privately and cross the shares in one go.

The Philippine Stock Exchange sets a minimum size for a cross to be reported on the block sale board, and in practice the trades listed here run from several million pesos to well over a billion. Everything on this page came from the exchange's own Daily Quotation Report, so it is what the PSE itself classified as a block sale.

Neither on its own. A block trade tells you that a large holder sold and another large buyer was willing to take the whole position, which is a fact about ownership changing hands rather than about direction. The price it crossed at, relative to the market price that day, is the more informative part.

They are reported on a separate board, so a company can see a substantial change of ownership here without showing up anywhere near the top of the day's regular turnover. Compare with regular turnover →
