Using the cash a dividend pays you to buy more shares of the same company, so the next payout is calculated on a larger holding. It is what turns a dividend from income into compounding. Philippine brokers rarely automate this, so on the PSE it usually means placing the buy yourself, which brings two frictions worth planning around: the board lot minimum, and a commission charged on a small order.
