Extra shares instead of cash, credited in proportion to what you already hold. A 10% stock dividend turns 1,000 shares into 1,100. It is not free money: the company is worth the same afterwards and is now divided into more shares, so the price adjusts down to match. What it does give you is a larger share count with no trade and no commission.
