What you actually paid for the shares you still hold: shares bought multiplied by the price you paid, plus any broker fees and commissions on those buys. It's the number your gain or loss is measured against, so a trade with high fees starts out slightly behind. When you sell part of a position, the cost basis of the shares you sold leaves with them.
